Prenatal tests

NIPT, 13-week and 20-week scans

You can choose to have tests to find out whether your baby has a condition or a physical abnormality. This is called prenatal screening. If you'd like to learn more about prenatal screening, we’ll discuss this with you in detail (counseling) during your first appointment.

In this conversation, we’ll look together at what you need to make a choice that feels right for you. You can ask any questions you may have. Two people hear more than one, so it’s a good idea to bring your partner or someone else along. After the conversation, you decide for yourself whether you want to have the tests done or not.

There are two types of prenatal screening:

  1. Noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) is a blood test to check for chromosomal abnormalities.
  2. The 13-week scan and the 20-week scan use an ultrasound to check for physical abnormalities..

These tests are not mandatory — It is up to you to decide whether to have these tests.

Visit the website of the RIVM at www.pns.nl for information.

Read the information carefully!

⚠️ It’s important that you read the information before your first appointment.
That way, we can use the appointment to focus more deeply on your questions, thoughts, and any doubts you may have.
