National PREM survey
Two to eight weeks after giving birth, you’ll receive a questionnaire about the care you received during your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum period. This includes care from us as your midwives, as well as from other professionals such as gynecologists, maternity nurses, and hospital staff.
National agreements require all maternity care organizations to measure client experiences. All organizations use the same questionnaire: the PREM Maternity Care Survey, developed together at a national level.
Every new mother is invited to complete this short survey of 14 questions about what matters most to you and what is useful for healthcare providers. The questions focus on your experiences with care from each organization involved: the midwifery practice, hospital, and maternity care organization. You’ll answer on a simple 10-point scale using smiley icons. The survey also includes a few background questions such as age, location, and place of birth.
How does the PREM maternity care survey work?
- At the start of your pregnancy, we informed you about the PREM survey and that your email address may be used for this purpose. You had the option to opt out (in which case you won’t receive an invitation).
- Unless you opted out, we shared your email address after your birth.
- You’ll then automatically receive an email with an explanation and a link to the PREM questionnaire between 2 and 8 weeks after giving birth.
- Please complete the questionnaire as honestly as possible.
Prem information
What happens with the results?
The completed PREM questionnaires are used by several organizations:
- The organizations that provided your care receive both the national results and their own anonymized data. They can use this information to improve the quality of maternity care. By completing the PREM survey, you help improve the care provided by each organization involved in your birth.
- All questionnaires are securely collected by an independent research institute (Perined). They share anonymized results with national organizations that use the data to improve maternity care quality. Perined also contributes anonymized data to the national public database. Answers to open-ended questions are not shared publicly.
Feedback for us: positive or negative — we’d love to hear it!
The PREM is an anonymous satisfaction survey, which means we cannot trace the answers back to any individual. If you have feedback or tips that need some explanation, or if you’d prefer to discuss your experience in person, please don’t hesitate to make an appointment. You can do this shortly after the birth — or weeks or even months later — whatever feels right for you!
